The lakes of Allgäu

The Allgäu from its most beautiful side

  • Hopfensee

This is a bathing lake with probably the most beautiful view in the Allgäu. It is not for nothing that the place Hopfen, in which the Hopfensee is located, is also called the Allgäu Riviera. There are numerous restaurants and cafés along the waterfront as well as a sunbathing lawn. The Hopfensee is one of the warmest lakes in the foothills of the Alps and is particularly popular with families due to the wide range of offers.

  • Lake Weissensee

One of the most beautiful bathing lakes in the southern Allgäu is located near Pfronten. Especially families with children love the Weißensee, because the lake can be completely circumnavigated via a circular path. A kiosk and a large playground invite you to linger.

  • Forggensee

The Forggensee is famous for its blue to jade green color. This is caused by the fact that the reservoir flows through the Lech. The water of the fifth largest lake in Bavaria has a high mineral content and a low water temperature. A cycle path leads around the lake and you can spend a great day with the whole family in numerous cafés, bathing areas and sunbathing lawns. Enjoy the view of the royal castles on a boat trip on the Forggensee.

  • Lake Atlesee

The beautiful sunbathing areas on the shore make it a popular bathing lake in the Allgäu.

  • Alpsee

The Alpsee, at the foot of the Säuling, scores with an outstanding mountain panorama and great water quality. The crystal clear mountain lake is considered one of the cleanest lakes in Germany. Due to the proximity to the royal castles, the view of Neuschwanstein Castle and Hohenschwangau Castle can be enjoyed while swimming. The south bank is very popular in summer. The kiosk and the sunbathing lawn warmly welcome families at the bathing lake. Pedal boats and rowing boats can be rented in the boathouse and even ice skating can be done in winter.

  • Lake Alatsee

Above the Weißensee is the smaller Alatsee. The mountain lake is located in a depression and is surrounded by mountains. Nestled in a beautiful mountain panorama, you can relax on a small lawn on the Alatsee. A hiking trail lead around the lake with a length of about 1.5 kilometers. Along the circular route you will always find interesting showcases with information about local bird life. On the east bank there are Kneipp pools and a nice restaurant with a sunny terrace. The Alatsee is surrounded by mountains and probably one of the most beautiful lakes in the whole Ostallgäu. The colors of the crystal clear water vary from dark blue to light turquoise.
