  • The Zugspitze

At 2,964m, Germany’s highest mountain is an impressive day trip destination that you should not miss on holiday in Pfronten. With the cable car it goes uphill and at the summit or in the glacier world the fantastic all-round view is overwhelming.
Go tobogganing in the middle of summer, hike with a guide over the glacier or follow the GletschErlebnisWeg. Would-be Summiteers can gain their first experience of climbing in the Alpine Park.

  • Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein Castle arose from the spirit of the “fairytale king” Ludwig II of Bavaria, who dreamt it up as his retreat. It is considered the fairytale castle par excellence. In its fantasy Medieval style and its magnificent apartments, the building reflects the enthusiasm of the sensitive and unworldly monarch for the opera world of Richard Wagner. A hint of this still surrounds the castle today; last but not least, the phenomenal view contributes to the otherworldliness.

  • Munich Daytrip

The Hotel Krone in Pfronten is ideally located for a day trip to Munich, the cosmopolitan city on the Isar. Munich is home to art and culture, but also to modern life. Admire art treasures of bygone times in the numerous museums, such as the Old and New Pinakothek or the State Collection of Antiquities. Technical masterpieces as well as an architectural masterpiece await you in the BMW world and the city centre is a true paradise for strolling and shopping.

  • Falkenstein Castle Ruins

Everyone knows Neuschwanstein, but Ludwig II had even bigger things in mind: The castle ruins of Falkenstein near Pfronten were to be rebuilt in new splendour, even more magnificent than the lavish Neuschwanstein. Only Ludwig’s early death in 1886 prevented the colossal project and so Falkenstein Castle, built in the 13th century and destroyed in the Thirty Years’ War, can today only claim the title of “highest castle ruin in Germany”. However, the magnificent mountain panorama and its picturesque beauty make Falkenstein a popular destination.

  • Castle & Park Linderhof

The former hunting lodge of his father, Maximilian II, was transformed piece by piece by King Ludwig into a royal villa with all comforts and extraordinary splendour. Marvel at the luxurious neo-rococo-style décor and learn exciting details about the eccentric lifestyle of royal landlords on a guided tour. Don’t miss a walk through the park with its ponds, fountains and staff buildings. Explore the castles and palaces in the Allgäu, which are among the most beautiful and famous in Germany. At the Alpenhotel Krone Pfronten, we are happy to give you tips on planning your visit to the royal castles and other activities, such as hiking, golf or biking.
